Live! Barcelona V Real Madrid – La Liga

Kick off is imminent here at the Camp Nou and here’s Matthew Poole to be your guide through what promises to be a heck of a football match.

The team sheets have been released and both teams are fielding full strength sides.

Both teams come into this game in fine form: Barca won 0-8 last week against Almeria whilst Madrid coasted to a 5-1 victory at home to Athletic Bilbao.

You couldn’t script it; this truly is a game of rivals. This isn’t just Barcelona vs Real Madrid, it’s Pep Guardiola vs Jose Mourinho, and it’s Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo.

20 minutes to kick-off and the Camp Nou is absolutely rocking. The Catalonian colours have engulfed the Camp Nou, and a TIFO reading ‘testimo Barca’ emerges in the stands, meaning ‘I love you Barca’.

The Anthem of Barcelona rings out with minutes to go till Kick-off.

First Half Begins

1’ Kick-off in Catalonia!

1’ Ronaldo goes down after being fouled by Villa.

2’ Advantage for Barcelona after Xavi has been fouled.

3’ Valdes deals well with a Ronaldo cross but it appears he has sprung his shoulder as a result.

4’ Turns out he flew into Piques knee in what is his 15th el Clasico.

6’ MESSI HITS THE POST! Messi took an ambitious shot after a corner and almost struck gold.

6’ Alves takes a shot from miles out but doesn’t get the reward.

8’ Madrid only just had their first attack. Says a lot really.

GOAL! Barcelona 1-0 Real Madrid

10’ XAVI SCORES FOR BARCA!!! Iniesta slipped the ball through and Xavi was just onside, to which the Spaniard chipped Casillas.

Real Madrid look furious!

12’ Messi goes down for what was a definite foul but it isn’t give, Madrid break on the counter but Ozil can’t finish it from far out.

14’ Madrid seem to be going for the counter attacking approach as a means of dealing with Barcelona’s possession based gameplay.

17’ Barcelona fans teasing the opposition by shouting ‘Olay’ with every single Barcelona pass.

GOAL!! Barcelona 2-0 Real Madrid

18’ Barcelona created the goal after a solid 5 minutes of build-up play, Xavi switched the ball to Villa and the ball was launched into the box where Pedro tapped it in after Casillas fumbled it.

21’ Benzema wastes a good opportunity following a Xabi Alonso free kick.

22’ Foul on Iniesta by Sami Khedira causes play to be stopped momentarily.

24’ From a neutral viewpoint it’s hard not to admire the way Barcelona play football.

27’ Pedro gets in on goal but Casillas gets to the ball seconds before.

28’ Stats: Barcelona currently have 72% possession. Ouch.

31’ A massive argument has just occurred on the pitch following Ronaldo pushing Guardiola away. The entire Barca team (even Valdes) has come to the scene.

32’ Valdes and Ronaldo have been booked as a result. Come on boys play nice.

34’ Yellow card shown to David Villa now after he fouled Khedira. This is a good range for someone to strike it.

35’ Ronaldo sends the ball fizzling past the post.

36’ Pepe booked now for wrapping his arm around Messi. Things seem to be heating up despite the rain.

38’ Penalty appeals from Ronaldo! Controversial decision after Valdes takes Ronaldo to ground, but did he touch the ball?

40’ Messi takes a shot from far out but it goes soaring over the crossbar.

42’ Pepe with a brilliant challenge to end Messi’s counter attack, very well played by the Portuguese defender.

44’ Ronaldo shoots from near the half way line and it’s an easy save for Victor Valdes.

45’ Messi gets booked, for being fouled? Having seen replays on the big screen it looks like an accident by Carvalho, rightful booking?

2 Minutes added time.

Half time: Barcelona 2-0 Real Madrid

Absolute domination from Barcelona, Peps men have been mesmerizing on the ball and you can tell that Madrid are very frustrated. Jose Mourinho needs to make serious changes at half time to get Los Blancos back into this game, they cannot let Barca continue the way are, otherwise we could have a cricket score.

Real Madrid make a substitution, replacing Mesut Ozil with Lassana Diarra (Lass).

Second Half Begins

45’ Second Half Begins.

47’ Villa caught offside.

50’ Both sides still getting back into the game following the interval.

51’ Sergio Busquets goes down heavily after clattering with Xabi Alonso, who has been booked as a result.

54’ Madrid are pressuring Barcelona more now, it’s quite clear that there has been a change of tactics.

GOAL!!! Barcelona 3-0 Real Madrid

55’ David Villa the scorer this time! He puts his shot away neatly after a penetrating through ball by Messi.

Iker Casillas was booked for arguing with the referee.

GOAL!!!! Barcelona 4-0 Real Madrid

57’ David Villa has done it again! Messi goes on a ridiculous run, then just glides a world class through ball past two Madrid defenders, to which Villa slots home again. 4-0.

60’ Arbeloa replaces Marcelo at left-back. Damage reduction?

61’ Last time Barcelona scored 4 against Madrid at the Camp Nou was in the 1993/94 season.

64’ Arbeloa has just taken his wedding ring off and left it on the touchline… Brave.

65’ Busquets takes a shot from the half-way line and it just goes over Casillas.

66’ Real Madrid seem to have given up. Tactical masterclass from Guardiola? Or just a very bad day at the office for Madrid.

68’ Barcelona are showing just how good they are, passing it around, keeping position and even showboating to some degree.

71’ Carvalho has been given a yellow card for a handball, and yet it should really be a red for denying a goal scoring opportunity and a deliberate handball.

72’ David Villa has just been wiped out by Sergio Ramos, he’s been rightfully booked. What on earth was going on in his head when he went in for that challenge?

75’ Khedira just clattered into Iniesta and has received a booking for it. The towering German even has a blood stained shirt. Passion or idiocy?

76’ David Villa comes off for youngster Bojan. What a game he has had today.

79’ Barcelona fans giving Ronaldo some stick at the corner flag. You can understand why.

80’ Puyol booked now for a dangerous foul on Benzema, the ref’ won’t have any room left in his book by the end of this match.

9 of the 11 players on the pitch for Barca today have come from their academy.

85’ All credit to Barcelona for not switching off and giving Madrid a consolation goal, it shows just how focused this team is.

86’ Seydou Keita replaces Xavi.

87’ Jeffren replaces Pedro.

90’ 3 minutes of added time.

GOAL!!!!! Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid

90’ + 1 Bojan delivers a low cross into the box and it’s met near the penalty spot by Jeffren.

90’ + 3 Sergio Ramos receives a second yellow for pushing Puyol’s face, and a massive brawl seems to have occurred yet again in Catalonia.

Full time: Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid

An absolute rout in Barcelona tonight. A previously unbeaten Real Madrid side have just crumbled against arguably the best team in Europe. Is this the beginning of a slide down the table for Madrid? I think what’s most impressive is how much this shows not only how influential Messi is to that Barcelona team, but just how easily that Barcelona side can dismantle even the toughest of opposition.

Thanks for reading, I’m off to warm up as it’s freezing here tonight.

“How we play Football”

Real Madrid were victim to a 5-0 hammering against Barcelona the other night. The Catalonian giants dismantled Los Blancos with ease despite Madrid coming into the game unbeaten. Two goals from David Villa and a 90 minute master class from Lionel Messi put Madrid in their place, leaving them with their tail between their legs. Madrid boss Jose Mourinho even claimed that the result was ‘historically bad’, clearly showing his disappointment in his team’s performance.

A FUSTRATING NIGHT FOR REAL MADRID IN BARCELONA

Live! Real Madrid V Barcelona – La Liga

Join Liam Parr to take you through this eagerly awaited El Clasico:

El Clasico is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year as the two Spanish giants fight for the top spot of La Liga. Last time these two teams played each other, the atmosphere was incredible – absolutely incredible I tell you. We can only hope that we get such an immense game today. The previous meeting brought us a 2-0 victory for the Catalonians; I can assure you Real Madrid will be hunting for their revenge.

Jose Mourinho has made an unusual decision by benching one of their top forwards Gonzalo Higuain, whereas Pep Guardiola isn’t taking any chances by playing such a strong line-up. Mesut Ozil will be the main supply to the Portuguese magician; the Spaniard that is Andreas Iniesta will be the one looking to produce the magic for Barcelona.

The atmosphere here this evening is nothing like I have ever seen before; both sets of fans emitting such high decibels as we wait for the match to start.

1min: Kick off is underway as Benzema steps up. We are in for one hell of a game.

2min: Dani Alves attempts an incredible pass however it was cut out by a Ramos header.

2min: Pique attempts a through ball to send Messi on a one-on-one but it unfortunately gets cut out.

3min: Ronaldo whips in a cross as he bombs down the wing which forces a save from the keeper.

4min: That save has made Valdes collide with Pique; there is a sense of uncertainty right now.

5min: Messi’s first touch of the game manages to force a corner for the Catalonians.

5min: Messi attempts a worldie as the nearly curls into the top right from a tight angle but unfortunately hits the post.

8min: Real Madrid’s first notable attack as Ronaldo is doing lollipops on the ball and puts in a cross.

10min: GOAL! Barcelona 1-0 Real Madrid

What an important early goal! Xavi manages to socre after a long range shot from Iniesta goes wayward but Xavi manages to chip Casillas.

12mins: Counter attack from Madrid as the front trio of Madrid run towards three Barcelona defenders and force a decent save from the keeper, who puts it out for a corner.

14min: Little attacks for Real Madrid so far as Barcelona are bossing the game.

17min: Real Madrid currently can’t get out of their own half as Barcelona are doing their preferred passing play.

18min: GOAL! Barcelona 2-0 Real Madrid

What a lovely piece of build up play. 20 – 25 passes? I lost count. Pedro finishes up a perfect passage of play after David Villa runs at the Madrid full back and passes the ball to him to finish.

20min: Mourinho is looking unhappy as he watches this embarrassment in silence. Guardiola on the other hand is commanding each player and controlling the course of the game.

23min: By the looks of this, Mourinho will still carry the burden of never winning at the Camp Nou

26min: A poor pass from Cristiano Ronaldo is intercepted as Real Madrif hoped to be on the attack once again.

27min: The passing in absolutely fantastic as they are mesmerizing Madrid with this beautiful play.

28min: 72% possession for Barcelona just illustrates the dominant force of them. Real Madrid are being taught football; something needs to change at half time.

30min: We’re sat in a stalemate momentarily as Barcelona maintain possession and Madrid do not want to get out.

30min: Ronaldo starts up pushing and shoving as a petulant push sends the keeper runs 30 yards to get involved, which gets him a booking. Ronaldo also receives yellow for getting in a pushing match with the Barcelona team. If anything, that can be seen as a tactic to slow the course of the game and give Real Madrid time to regroup.

34min: David Villa receives yellow for the foul on Kehidira in the classic free kick territory for Ronaldo

35min: Ronaldo produces a tomahawk as it drifts just wide of the post.

36min: Another yellow card! Pepe receives a booking for ensuring that Messi can’t produce something magic on the counter. A tactical foul as some might say. A lot of stop- start football as both teams try and attack the opposition’s goal.

38min: The last five minutes have certainly been all Madrid as they send a bombardment of balls into the box, from every situation; whether it be a dead ball or running down the wing.

38min: Penalty claim as Ronaldo goes down softly in the box after Valdes comes to claim the ball.

40min: Messi attempts a long range shot but unfortunately can’t hit the target this time.

42min: What a brilliant tackle by Pepe as he times it to perfection in a one-on-one with Messi in the box after the Argentinian stole the ball from Pepe’s partner at the back. Pepe did well not to give away a penalty, considering his record.

45min: Another flare up as an off the ball foul from Carvalho to Messi. Oh wait Messi has been booked for diving even though there was a blatant elbow towards the mouth of him.

Half time

Wow what a first half! End to end stuff; even if it has been mainly Barcelona. What first started off as sloppy play from the white shirts, by conceding 2 goals within the first 20 minutes. Both managers will have a lot to say about that energizing first half. Real Madrid will come out fighting after what Mourinho has to say to his players.

SUBSITUTION: Lassana Diarra comes on to replace Mesut Ozil after an uncertain first half

Barcelona are waiting for the referee’s call to open the second half of this exciting fixture.

47min: Messi has just left 3 defenders dizzy as he’s doing some audacious skill past the defenders. Pirouetting around each one almost as if they were statues. Three shots in quick succession leaves the blockers stinging on this cold night.

50min: Yellow card for Xabi Alonso as he fouls his fellow Spaniard Busquets. That has made it the sixth one of the game.

51min: Xavi made a forward run into the box after a lovely piece of skill from Messi. The pass has fizzled through and the unsung hero of Barcelona hits the side netting. Should he have looked for a better option?

54min: GOAL! Barcelona 3-0 Real Madrid

Crucial loss of possession by Los Blancos to which the Catalonians capitalise on. Messi runs through and plays a pass to David Villa scores with a tidy finish from the penalty spot.

55min: The offside claim have awarded Casillas with a yellow card for complaining.

57min: GOAL! Barcelona 4-0 Real Madrid

Another tidy finish by Villa after a superb ball from Messi. Villa slotted the ball through the legs of the keeper from about 15 yards out. This is embarrassing- it’s like watching Sunday league football with this joke of defending.

60min: Marcelo off for Arbeloa as Los Merengues hope to defend what they have and not turn this game into utter shambles.

62min: Barcelona are just playing with Madrid now with this great passage of play- it’s almost like a playground out there

64min: Frustration showing now in the league leaders as they are trying to destroy the supply line by fouling Messi

65min: An ambitious effort for Barcelona as a shot from the halfway line is hit just over the bar. This just shows the masterclass that they have since that they would even attempt such an unlikely event.

67min: Los Blancos cannot stop the illustrious Tikka Takka football that Barcelona are currently playing. Little 1-2s are ripping them apart.

70min: Audacious skills coming out from every Barcelona player now. They’re just playing with Madrid.

71min: Carvalho receives a yellow card for a handball, denying Messi the opportunity to run towards the goalkeeper again.

72min: Ramos now receives the 9th yellow card for Real. Of all people you’d never expect him to get one!

75min: Another yellow card, this time for khederia for taking out Iniesta in the centre kick spot.

76min: David villa won’t be getting his hattrick tonight as he gets a standing ovation from 30,00 fans. Bojan comes on as his replacement.

77min: Poor first touch for Bojan as a lovely ball comes in from Messi and he gets denied the opportunity to score. Had he of had a better touch, it would’ve been a one-on-one to put the nail in the coffin.

79min: This is now the 5th Classico in a row that Barcelona will win. This just shows the sheer domination this side currently has.

81min: A Real Madrid corner leads to a Barca counter attack but unfortunately leads to nothing.

82min: A wayard cross by Di Maria creates a goal kick after an ambitious run down the line, beating the full back.

87min: Pedro and Xavi receive a standing ovation by the crowd after coming off for Jeffren and Pinto

89min: Worrying times for Real Madrid now as we approach the final whistle. This could really change the course of their form for the rest of the season and may mean the loss of the league title to their bitter rivals.

90+1min: GOAL! Barcelona 4-0 Real Madrid

Absolute madness as the substitute Jeffren runs into the box to finish a wonderful move by Barcelona. A quick cross across the face of the goal by Bojan finishes this utter historic game.

90+3min: Ramos receives a second yellow and is coming off after shoving Carles Puyol over. The scenes are unbelievable as everyone is having some. Xavi, who came off as a substitute, got a yellow card from the bench during the flare up. Every player was brawling with the opposing player.

What an unbelievable game. One for the record books. If Messi & co can keep this form throughout the season, they will surely walk away with the title. Real Madrid will need to rethink their strategies after getting dismantled by their bitter rivals.

Thanks for reading. I’m off to re-evaluate what just happened with a nice massage.

Two strikes from David Villa deflate a confident Real Madrid

Barcelona today “were fantastic” while Real Madrid “played very, very badly”, according to Jose Mourinho. These are the words that the Special One had to say about both teams tonight. On paper these two sides looked to be a very even game. But after two Los Blancos mistakes, this meant that the flood gates opened and Barcelona took advantage.
